Temptation is part of life. It is not a sin to be tempted, but it’s how we respond to temptation that is important.
Matthew 26:41 says, “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation” (ESV). When Jesus Christ was tempted in the wilderness, He responded to Satan by quoting Scripture. Be prepared for temptation by learning God’s Word and by praying that you will not give in to tempting thoughts or follow through on tempting actions.
Here’s an encouraging verse: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13, ESV).
Taking God’s way out might mean fleeing the scene of temptation (1 Timothy 6:11) or staying where you are and resisting it (James 4:7).
